O’Gorman unlikely to make breakthrough

ELECTION hopeful and children’s rights campaigner, Colm O’Gorman, has failed to make an impact in Wexford according to the findings of a new opinion poll.

O’Gorman unlikely to make breakthrough

A Red C opinion poll, which will be published in the Wexford Echo newspaper today, reveals that Mr O’Gorman, a Progressive Democrats candidate, has garnered only two per cent support.

According to the poll, Mr O’Gorman will be the first of the declared candidates to be eliminated.

The poll also suggests that Fine Gael’s health spokesperson Dr Liam Twomey could be in danger of losing the seat he won as an independent in 2002.

The Red C poll predicts he will be involved in tense battle with his running mate, Michael Darcy junior for the last of the five seats.

If the Wexford Echo commissioned poll is repeated on election day then Fianna Fáil will safely retain their two seats with Junior Minister John Brown set to top the poll with his first preferences total doubling from 15% to a whopping 30%.

Such support would ensure Mr Browne has almost two quotas and, in that scenario, his massive surplus will ensure that one his Fianna Fáil running mates will get elected.

The most likely to succeed is Sean Connick, the poll suggests. His support levels are in the order of 9%, some five points stronger than Lisa McDonald, who is on 4%.
