AN Irish company is to begin selling a machine that claims to kill an amoeba that can carry the devastating hospital bug, MRSA, and which can become airborne.

Although the primary mode of infection in MRSA is thought to be through skin contact, recent research has also suggested the possibility of an airborne infection route, via cysts caused by the amoeba species in question.

The appliance works like an air conditioning unit, sucking in air, cleaning it with a special biocide disinfectant that kills the MRSA bacteria, and recirculating the air.
