Tell consumers about electricity bill prices, Dempsey urged

THE Government should put its money where its mouth is and tell consumers when their electricity bills will fall and by how much, a consumer champion said yesterday.

Dermott Jewell, chief executive of the Consumers Association of Ireland, said Communications, Marine and Natural Resources Minister Noel Dempsey should specify the reductions that will be passed on to consumers if the Electricity Supply Board (ESB) is broken up and its national grid transferred to EirGrid.

He was responding to the White Paper on Energy published by Mr Dempsey, which sets out the strategy for energy supply and security for the next 13 years.
