Suspicious death of elderly man sparks garda probe

GARDAÍ were last night trying to locate the last person to have seen a man found dead in suspicious circumstances on a remote Co Mayo peninsula.

John Gaughan, 72, was discovered collapsed in the driveway to his house in Blacksod, near Ballina, by a neighbour on Sunday afternoon.

Post-mortem results found he did not die from natural causes and that he had a number of injuries on his body.
