Martin: Cork still ‘buoyant’ despite job losses

ENTERPRISE Minister Micheal Martin yesterday insisted that the recent spate of job losses in Cork did not require a task force to deal with what opposition parties painted as a looming crisis.

Mr Martin said yesterday’s confirmation of 330 job losses at Motorola’s plant in Mahon — as well as other recent announcements — need to be put into perspective.

“Cork has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country at 3.7%. In the type of economy we have, there is a certain ‘churn’ factor,” he said.
