Fear of further violence after man is shot at home

GARDAÍ were out in force in west Dublin last night after a young man was shot at his home.

The attack on the 22-year-old is believed to be part of a personal row between two groups in the Clonsilla area.

The victim eceived minor injuries to his foot and leg. “We believe this is a personal

settling of scores among a couple of people. We have a good idea who did it,” said a garda source.

Officers operations were underway to locate the suspects and the gun used in the shooting. They were concerned at the possibility of revenge attacks. “We’re worried about it and are monitoring it to prevent any further violence. We fear it could escalate.”

The shooting occurred at around 11.30pm on Thursday at Whitestown Park. When the target answered his door a sawn-off shotgun was shoved through the gap.

The youth tried to slam the door and jammed the barrel of the gun. The attacker pulled the gun back, the youth closed the door, and shots were fired through the bottom part of the door, injuring the man’s foot and calf area. The victim was taken to James Connolly Memorial Hospital, but was released yesterday.

Gardaí believe the car used as a getaway was found in nearby Fortlawn afterwards. The dark Nissan Almera was not burned out and is being examined. Anyone with information should ring Blanchardstown Station on 01-6667000 or the Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

Meanwhile, two men detained in connection with an attempted gangland murder in Dublin’s south inner city on Tuesday night have been released. Gardaí, who are awaiting forensic tests, will now begin preparing a file for the DPP.

The 22-year-old victim, named locally as Wayne McNally, received pellet injuries in the attack. He is out of intensive care.

Gardaí are investigating claims the attack was linked to a violent gangland feud in south Dublin.
