MEASURES needed to reduce the risk of bird flu being introduced into Ireland were published by the Department of Agriculture and Food yesterday.

The poultry industry has been operating high levels of bio-security since the bird flu risk increased over the past few years But in an effort to further highlight the measures and advice poultry farmers, the Department yesterday took space in the national press.

The notices explained that the avian flu virus may be present in live birds and their products (meat, eggs and feathers) and in the carcases and faeces of birds.
