Father of shooting victim says family got ‘no justice’

John Butler was speaking after an inquest into the murder of his son, John junior, was unable to return a verdict of unlawful death.

The jury at Cork Coroner’s Court was directed to return a narrative verdict in relation to the death of the 20-year-old father-of-one from Knocknaheeny Avenue in Cork. Mr Butler was blasted in the chest at point-blank range by a masked gunman as he walked home with his partner, Rachel Thornhill, in the early hours of October 7, 2002.
