Hospital says talks ongoing to increase capacity

MORE than 100 patients scheduled to have surgery at Beaumont Hospital in January had their operations postponed because of bed shortages.

The figure was revealed last night in the wake of disclosures by St James Hospital that it had to cancel approximately 20 operations because all its intensive care beds were occupied.

A spokesman for Beaumont blamed its cancellations — 113 in total — on delayed discharges.
