Seven-year housing wait for disabled boy ‘not only case’

THE mother of a severely disabled child waiting seven years for suitable council housing is unlikely to be an isolated case, the Ombudsman for Children has warned.

Publishing the results of her investigation into the case yesterday, Ombudsman Emily Logan said it was: “Illustrative of one, but there are probably many cases”.

Ms Logan criticised the lack of co-ordination between the different agencies responsible for looking after the health, education and housing needs of disabled children. The fragmented nature of services created further delays and difficulties for their parents, she said.
