Champion athletes row in to help raise €26,000 for charity groups

THE ship came in for a voluntary group working with drug users and homeless people yesterday.

Merchants Quay Ireland was handed a cheque for €16,000 by world champion rower Gearóid Towey.

The Cork native, together with fellow rower Ciarán Lewis, collected the money as part of a fundraising campaign when the pair attempted to row across the Atlantic in November 2005.
