Politicians row over credit for cancer service

A POLITICAL row has flared up between Fianna Fáil and Labour in Kerry, with both parties claiming credit for helping to secure a breast screening service for the county.

Kerry South Labour TD Breda Moynihan Cronin yesterday welcomed Fianna Fáil’s ‘newfound interest’ in the BreastCheck service and said she hoped the Government would deliver on its promise to extend free breast screening to the county by 2007.

“I note from recent Fianna Fáil election material in South Kerry that BreastCheck is suddenly a priority for the party following many years when it was rarely, if ever, mentioned by their public representatives in the county,” she said.
