AN angry Dundalk football fan spent last night in garda custody after he allowed his passion for the club run too high and threatened to set fire to the headquarters of the Football Association of Ireland (FAI).

Paul McAllister, who works as a steward at Dundalk Football Club’s Oriel Park grounds, was arrested on public order offences. He spent the night in Pearse Street garda station, where he was assessed by a medical team.

Inspector John Keenan from Pearse Street station said: “At about half past two a man in his late 30s, wearing a Dundalk jersey, walked into the FAI headquarters and doused a room with petrol.”
