IT technology can scan entire shopping trolley

NEW scanning technology, being demanded by large supermarkets in the US and Britain, is being developed at the Institute of Technology (IT) in Tralee.

Pilot projects are being carried out by the wireless and mobility research group at the IT.

What’s essentially being promoted is an electronic bar code which, according to the IT’s Dr Pat Doody, will eventually become common in business.
