Shop assistant injured in robbery

A FEMALE shop assistant was taken to hospital yesterday after she was injured during an armed robbery.

Three masked raiders, one brandishing a firearm and another armed with a knife, entered the family run grocery store in Ballinacurra Weston at 10.30am.

They threatened staff before escaping with the proceeds of a Christmas club, believed to be about €200.

The assistant was injured when one of the intruders struck her with an object.

She was taken to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital. Her injuries were described as “not life-threatening”.

Gardaí from Roxboro Garda Station are investigating the robbery. They have appealed to anybody who was in the Crecora Avenue area of Ballinacurra Weston yesterday morning and who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.

“A female was injured in the robbery when she was struck by one of the raiders with an object,” said a garda spokesman.
