MORE than half of the seriously ill children who received blood products improperly screened for hepatitis C at the State’s largest children’s hospital in the early 1990s have tested negative for the virus.

All of the 78 children who received the blood products at Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin, Dublin, were contacted by the hospital and offered hepatitis C testing.

The 49 who responded have all been tested for hepatitis C. Forty three have tested negative for the virus and six are still awaiting their test result.
