MURDER accused Joe O’Reilly was remanded on bail for a further period when he appeared at Cloverhill District Court yesterday morning.

Man on remand for murder of wife

The father-of-two, who is charged with the murder of his wife Rachel two years ago, is required to appear next at Swords District Court in three-and-a-half weeks.

The prosecution, represented by the Chief State Solicitor’s office, told the court that more time was needed to prepare the book of evidence, which an earlier court sitting had heard was due to have been served yesterday.

Mr O’Reilly, of Lambay View, Beldaragh, The Naul, Co Dublin, is charged with murdering 30-year-old Rachel at their home on October 4, 2004.

Her badly beaten body was found by her mother, who went to check on her after the local crèche called to say she had failed to pick up her youngest son.

Her husband was arrested and charged three weeks ago and spent just over a week in prison while bail arrangements were made.

As part of the bail conditions, he had to enter a bond of €15,000 and surrender his passport.

The accused was remanded with his consent to appear again on December 5.
