Film festival to show feature on paedophile
That is despite the fact that a Dublin school featured in the film without its consent is considering legal action against the filmmakers.
According to the Internet Movie Database, Deliver Us From Evil which shows former priest and convicted paedophile Oliver O’Grady watching young children at play, will be shown on February 20, 2007 at the Dublin Film Festival.
O’Grady, whose current whereabouts are unknown but who was last seen in the mid-west, admitted in the shocking 101-minute documentary that he is still a danger to young children and that he still gets sexually aroused by them.
The convicted sex offender watched children in a playground in Dublin as he told of the years of abuse he inflicted on innocent young people while serving as a priest in America.
O’Grady has admitted to molesting as many as 25 children while a parish priest in California. He served seven years in jail for molesting two brothers.
As well as the horrific nature of the confessions of the priest on the film — he admits he is still aroused by children both in their underwear and naked — it features footage shots of the priest watching children in a Merrion Square playground and shots of a local school.
That school, which has asked to remain anonymous for the sake of its pupils, is considering what legal action can be taken against the creators of the film as it alleges it did not give consent for the shooting.
An Irishman involved in the shooting of the scenes has claimed the film’s producer Amy Berg was warned not to show anything that would identify the school or any of its pupils.
The website for the film, www.deliverusfromevilthemovie.com which previously showed footage from the documentary has been removed and now simply links to the website for the distributor Lionsgate’s website.
The organisers of the Dublin Film Festival could not confirm whether the film is still to feature in the 10-day festival.
Meanwhile a civil lawsuit has been filed against the US Cardinal Roger Mahony, who is alleged to have masked O’Grady’s actions by moving him from diocese to diocese.
In a civil suit filed in California, Joaquin Aguilar Mendez accused Cardinal Mahony of Los Angeles as well as Cardinal Norberto Rivera Carrera of Mexico City of negligence, claiming they aided the flight of Father Nicolas Aguilar Rivera and that they were partially responsible for sexual battery due to their negligence.
He said they transferred a Mexican priest to the United States in 1987 despite knowing that he had a record of molesting minors in Mexico. Spokesmen for both cardinals have denied the charges.
