THE new taskforce appointed to combat social exclusion and crime in Limerick’s Moyross faces a tough battle after years of gangland shootings and drug-related feuds.

Since the murder of a man in the estate last month there have been several shooting incidents. Gardaí are currently investigating a spate of shootings which took place in the Moyross estate over the weekend.

A number of community-based initiatives, aimed at restoring order in the estate, already exist, and the new taskforce, headed by former Dublin City Manager, John Fitzgerald, will work alongside them.
