Minister softens position on official name of An Daingean

GAELTACHT Minister Eamon Ó Cuív yesterday said he was prepared to consider another proposal to change the official name of An Daingean, provided it was legal.

But he also stressed there was no provision in law for a bilingual format, as voted in last Friday’s plebiscite in the west Kerry town.

An overwhelming majority voted to change the name of the town from An Daingean to the bilingual Dingle/Daingean Uí Chúis.
