A TECHNOLOGICAL breakthrough in the management of chronic pain has helped teenager Niamh Redmond pull herself out of a wheelchair and get her life back on track.

Just over a year ago,Ms Redmond, 17, fromEnnis, Co Clare, developed Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome (RSD) after hurting her back in a bumper car ride. The condition, which also affects her legs and arms, is characterised by an intense burning pain.

Ms Redmond was hospitalised a number of times in an effort to try and manage the pain. “I was in awful pain but it became considerably worse last December and I had to use a wheelchair,” she said.
