MUINTIR na Tíre has criticised garda manpower levels in Cork and Kerry, following the publication of figures which show most other regions in the country have significantly more gardaí per head of population.

Munitir na Tíre president Margaret O’Doherty yesterday said her organisation is very concerned with garda manpower levels in isolated rural areas, especially during the winter time when robberies on the homes of elderly people increase.

“We want more gardaí deployed and longer opening hours in rural stations. We’re hoping the numbers will increase speedily and drastically,” she said.
