The €64,000 question still baffling Rabbitte

SPECULATIONS continued as to where Bertie Ahern kept the €64,000 savings he had amassed during his time as Finance Minister, while he again insisted last night he did not have a bank account at the time.

In heated Dáil exchanges, Labour leader Pat Rabbitte expressed incredulity, enquiring whether the Taoiseach had stashed the money “in a sock in the hot press?”

Socialist TD Joe Higgins also questioned the Taoiseach’s claim that he had no account in his own name between 1987 and 1993 and had not used the joint ones he shared with wife Miriam, as they had separated.
