Third youth arrested over shooting of garda
The 17-year-old is suspected of being the third member of a gang which shot the garda sergeant before endangering the lives of two innocent civilians in a subsequent car crash and shooting.
Two of the youths, one aged just 16, the other 22, were arrested after the second shooting, but the third gang member escaped.
It emerged yesterday that at least one of the two youths arrested on Wednesday may have been on cocaine at the time of the shootings.
The trio are members or associates of a family in the Crumlin area of South-West Dublin which is in a violent dispute with another family in the area.
It’s understood that one of them took an apparent cocaine-induced fit when he was brought to Sundrive Road Garda Station. He was taken to St James’s Hospital for treatment.
All three youths are being questioned under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, allowing for an initial detention period of two days.
