Senator urges probe of big retailers

A REPORT by a powerful backbench committee has recommended the Competition Authority investigate possible anti-competitive practices by major retailers in Ireland.

The report was written by Killarney-based Senator Paul Coghlan and adopted by the all-party Enterprise Committee.

The report is based on a visit to Britain to examine the retail sector and see if there is evidence of manipulation of the planning system, predatory pricing or unfair treatment of suppliers.
