Port probe ‘bogged down’

THE investigation at Shannon Foynes Port company has ground to a halt because the man who has made verbal allegations against company personnel has refused to cooperate, it was reliably learned last night.

It is believed this person is demanding the replacement of the special committee set up to investigate his claims.

One source said: “The whole thing has got bogged down due to demands now being made by the person who made unwritten, unsubstantiated verbal allegations.”

It has also been learned that the person now insists any legal expenses he incurs be paid by the board.

The probe was ordered to see if the verbal allegations made to two board members warranted further action. Last night sources claimed the person who made the allegations, who is not a board member, is frustrating the investigation by making new demands and refusing to give statements to back up his claims.

One source said: “This person now claims he made the same allegations to a board member last year and nothing was done. So we are wondering why he is now coming forward making the same claims a year later.”

Board members claim the allegations are not linked to a decision to look into the sale of Limerick docks.
