SOME 30 weapons have been handed in to gardaí in the first 10 days of the Government’s weapons amnesty.

Figures published yesterday show that 24 different types of guns were surrendered, as well as four knives, one crossbow and one grenade.

Justice Minister Michael McDowell introduced the amnesty on September 1 to allow people with access to illegally-held weapons to hand them in to gardaí.
