O’Donoghue attacks ‘deluded’ Green coalition claim

FIANNA Fáil last night said Green Party leader Trevor Sargent was “deluded” for setting out preconditions for a coalition between the parties when such an arrangement was “highly unlikely”.

At a Green Party strategy session in Wicklow on Thursday, Mr Sargent said that while he personally did not want to work with Fianna Fáil, the next government would have to reflect the mood of the electorate, and he would not rule out a coalition.

But Mr Sargent stressed Fianna Fáil would have to fire a number of ineffective ministers before any arrangement could be made. He cited Frank Fahey, Dick Roche and Martin Cullen as ministers “who would have to say goodbye”.
