Poultry producers to get €1.5m bird flu compensation

ABOUT 250 poultry producers stand to benefit from a €1.5 million compensation fund as a result of the recent bird flu scare.

According to the Irish Farmers’ Association about 200 of their members will be seeking compensation and should secure amounts varying from €500 to €1,500.

The Department of Agriculture and Food has introduced the scheme to compensate for any measures taken by the producers to “reduce the throughput of poultry” at the time of the scare.
