Probe into death of Irish woman in Majorca

The Department of Foreign Affairs is liaising with the family of 33-year-old Jean Reilly, who is believed to have lived in Spain for a number of years.

Ms Reilly is originally from Drogheda in Co Louth. Her remains have not yet been brought home.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs said today they were informed of Ms Reilly’s death in Majorca last Wednesday.

“Since then we have been offering her family support and are in touch with the local authorities in that area,” she added.

It is believed that shortly before she died, Ms Reilly had bought a plane ticket home and had called her family.

Her body was discovered lying face-down close to the water’s edge on Can Pere Antoni beach, in the city of Palma, by a man fishing.

Police in Spain have said there were a number of marks on Ms Reilly’s body, but it is not known if these were caused by injuries sustained before death.
