Missing man’s body found at Sally Gap

Yohan Verhoeven, 31, who had a number of convictions, had south Dublin addresses in Ballybrack and Shankill.

A foreign national, with a Belgian father, he had been raised in Ballybrack.

Criminals connected with the drugs trade in south Dublin and north Wicklow were questioned after Mr Verhoeven went missing on July 12.

British forensic entomologist Dr John Marlove has been called in by gardaí to help their investigation.

The study of insects found in a dead body can help to ascertain the time and place of death.

Members of Mr Verhoeven’s family visited the scene yesterday and left flowers, while garda units resumed their investigation.

When Mr Verhoeven’s body was discovered it was severely decomposed, having lain in undergrowth for several weeks.

Neighbours were baffled when he suddenly disappeared from his home, leaving his girlfriend, young son and two dogs.

Three foreign nationals who were out walking in the area found the body in Sraghmore Woods, Roundwood shortly after 2.30pm on Saturday.

The victim’s body — which had tattoos on both shoulders — was removed from the scene yesterday to Loughlinstown Hospital.

State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy later carried out a post mortem examination.

The grim find was made in the scenic Sally Gap area, within metres of the roadway.

The scene is expected to remain sealed off to enable Dr Marlove to carry out his detailed study.
