Father jumps to his death after partner dies of overdose

A MAN jumped to his death from the sixth floor window of his Dublin hotel room after finding his partner dead in bed from a drugs overdose.

The couple were the parents of a six-week-old baby and were celebrating the christening of their child when tragedy struck.

Karen Power, 28, is thought to have died in her hotel bed after a cocaine overdose.

When she was discovered by her husband, David Dunne, 27, on Sunday morning as he returned to the Tara Towers Hotel in Booterstown, he apparently took his own life.

The couple from Clondalkin had checked into the hotel for the weekend and, according to hotel staff, were in good spirits on Saturday.

They lived in their respective family homes just minutes from each other in the Bawnogue area of Clondalkin.

“It appears that when David saw Karen dead in the bed, and realised there was nothing he could do for her, he felt compelled to jump himself,” a garda source said.

“He called reception in a right state looking for help. We were called and arrived within minutes, but by then it was too late for the couple. It is an absolute tragedy,” the garda source said.
