Second man shot at in feud
The incident was reported to have occurred off the Dooradoyle Road at around 5.30pm on Monday.
A man on a motorbike fired four shots at a man as he walked towards his home. The intended victim was not hurt.
Gardaí from Roxboro Road have carried out a forensic examination of the scene.
Last Wednesday a cousin of the same man was shot at after he arrived home at Kilteragh, Dooradoyle a short distance from where the latest shooting occurred.
The two men who were shot at are connected to the Keane/Collopy gang based on the north side of the city at St Mary’s Park.
Gardaí have put in place additional armed patrols in the city due to heightened tensions among the city’s main feud gangs. The garda helicopter has also been deployed to back up patrols.
Gardaí say that a number of bogus reports of shootings have been made to divert them from certain areas of the city.
Meanwhile gardaí in the city are still investigating a shooting early on Monday when a girl aged 16 was hit in the chest by a bullet.
She was with other teenagers when one of them produced a handgun. There was a ricochet and the bullet hit the girl who was treated at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital. Her injury was not life threatening.
Despite garda searches, no gun has been found.
