LIMERICK gardaí are investigating an incident in which a man fired shots on a busy Limerick street where children were playing.

Shots fired on street near children

The incident happened at around teatime on Tuesday.

Nobody was hurt.

The previous evening, a gunman shot at two brothers aged eight and 12 in another Limerick estate.

The latest shooting happened in Moyross at around 6pm on Tuesday.

Reports indicate that a lone gunman walked up a street where children were playing and fired a number of shots. He then ran off. Nobody was hurt.

Two brothers escaped injury on Monday evening when a man fired shots at them from a car.

The car was later found burned out in Ballyclough.

The brothers were targeted, according to local sources, because a relative is connected to a city gang involved in a feud.

The Moyross shooting may have been in retaliation for Monday’s attack, which happened at the green in Garryowen.

Increased tensions led to a spate of shooting incidents last month.

There were 11 reported shootings over a six-day period and at least two families fled their homes in the Ballinacurra Weston area because of attacks.

A 16-year-old received bullet wounds in an attack in Southill three weeks ago.

He was talking to a man who was sitting in a parked car when a pillion passenger on a motorbike opened fire with an automatic handgun.

It is believed the man in the car was the intended victim.

The motorbike was later found burned out in Annacotty on the outskirts of the city.

Extra armed patrols have been put in place in the city over recent weeks.
