A SENIOR GAA official in the North was adamant yesterday that a controversial Maze Prison hunger strike commemoration in Casement Park in Belfast was not political.

The chairman of the Antrim County GAA Board also questioned the thinking of Croke Park’s central council in opposing the 25th anniversary of the H-blocks’ hunger strikes, which claimed the lives of 10 republican prisoners.

Dr John McSparran conceded there was a “difference of opinion” within the GAA, north and south.
