PARENTS whose children’s organs were retained without their knowledge or consent were angry and upset after viewing an unpublished report of a four-year Government inquiry into the controversy.

Parents for Justice, a campaign group representing more than 1,000 families, found that a copy of the suppressed Dunne Post Mortem Inquiry secured by them under the Freedom of Information Act contained recommendation that were far stronger and wider than the Madden Report.

While both reports call for the introduction of legislation to ensure that in future organs will not be removed without the consent of the deceased’s next-of-kin, the Dunne Report goes further in recommending that next-of-kin should be able to sue the hospital or individual doctors for breaking the law.
