Stay at Slane Castle on offer to fans for €55,000

WEALTHY overseas golf fans looking for a touch of class during the Ryder Cup could do a lot worse than stay at Slane Castle for the week.

The landmark 19th-century venue, which can sleep 20, is available on an exclusive basis for Ryder Cup week for around €55,000.

Although the Co Meath castle is an hour’s drive from the Ryder Cup base at Kildare’s K Club, golf fans can go by helicopter instead.

Both Slane and the Straffan club have helipads with organisers on hand to fly guests over for the short trip to golfing heaven.

Kim Murphy, who is handling rental queries, said: “They get the full use of the castle, function rooms as well as 10 double-bedrooms for the full week or however long they need.

“There will also be facilities event managers for anything people needed like transport or helicopters.”

Tour Rentals in Michigan in the USA is offering Irish homes for rent during the golfing extravaganza from $3,000 (€2,350) to $100,000 (€79,000).

Gerry Hughes, who is based in Limerick, said the $100,000 property could sleep 30 and came complete with its own barman, swimming pool and helipad.
