AN INCREASE in the number of holidaymakers taking shorter breaks is securing the future of Ireland’s bed and breakfast (B&B) industry, new research reveals.

And, despite B&Bs coming under heavy pressured from the budget hotel market and an overall visitor move towards shorter city breaks, more than nine out of ten businesses surveyed were profitable and 75% believe they will perform as well as they did last year, or even better.

While 84% of operators were confident of a bright future for the B&B sector, virtually all (98%) were optimistic about the future of their own individual businesses.
