Call for refuse waiver scheme

DESPITE management claims that there is no great demand for the removal of refuse charges from low-income households, the Fianna Fáil group on Limerick County Council are to press ahead with plans to introduce a refuse waiver scheme.

FF councillors want funding for a waiver scheme to be provided when the annual estimates are drawn up later this year.

Fine Gael members have stated that a refuse waiver scheme should only be introduced on a national basis similar to the other free schemes like free TV Licences and ESB for certain eligible categories.
