Popular South East restaurant expected to fetch €1m in sale

ONE of the south-east’s most popular restaurants — Coast Restaurant & Townhouse in Tramore, Co Waterford — is up for sale.

Coast’s owners Turlough McNamara and Jennifer McNally are offering the property for sale as they intend to concentrate on other business interests in the Waterford area. Given the buoyancy of the property market in the area, it is anticipated it could fetch over €1 million.

Opened in 2002 and popular with locals and visitors alike, Coast has won strong praise in several respected travel guides and food publications.

Frommer’s Ireland notes how “when super groovy Coast opened, it injected a blast-your-socks-off wow in foodie circles that resonated to Dublin and back in a nanosecond.

“The dining room is as chic and understated as you’d hope to find in Dublin (or New York or London for that matter). Food lovers, this is the great address to know about in Waterford.”

Commenting on the property, selling agent Ward Griffin of Brian Griffin Estates said: “Turlough and Jennifer have built up a tremendous trade and reputation at Coast over the past four years and there is an opportunity to acquire this thriving restaurant, which also has excellent guest accommodation that provides an additional revenue stream as well as boosting the restaurant trade as overnight guests generally eat in Coast during their stay.

“As well as the visiting trade, Waterford and Tramore provide a sound year-round bed-rock of business for the restaurant, which enjoys an excellent location in a fine building on Upper Branch Road.”

With a 50-seater licensed restaurant and lounge area, four guest bedrooms and fully-equipped professional kitchen, Coast has won favourable reviews in The Guardian, Michelin Guide to Hotels and Restaurants in Great Britain and Ireland, the Irish Independent, Food & Wine, the Irish Times, Elle Decoration, The Bridgestone 100 Best Places to Stay in Ireland 2006 and The Bridgestone 100 Best Restaurants in Ireland 2006.
