DOCTORS who treated teenager Brian Murphy at St Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin after he was fatally assaulted outside a nightclub almost six years ago may provide vital clues as to the cause of his death, an inquest heard yesterday.

The unlawful killing of the student outside Club Anabel at the Burlington Hotel in Dublin resulted in major controversy as two leading forensic experts have differed over the exact cause of his death.

Former State pathologist, Prof John Harbison, who conducted an autopsy on Mr Murphy’s body in 2000, ruled that he had died as a result of a swelling of the brain caused by injuries to his head and face.
