Fund for three children who lost parents in fire
City mayor Hilary Quinlan has officially launched an appeal fund for Cian, Brianna and Aaron O’Regan from Ballybeg who lost their parents Bryan and Johanna and younger sister Niamh in a fire at their home in the early hours of Tuesday, June 6. All funds raised by the appeal will be used to support the three young children.
Mr Quinlan said it is a tragedy which has not just touched the people of Waterford but families nationwide.
“I have never seen an outpouring of grief to compare with what was witnessed in Ballybeg in the days since the awful fire tragedy that claimed the young lives of Bryan and Johanna O’Regan and their beloved daughter Niamh,” he said.
“This was a young family setting out on their life’s journey with all of the hopes, dreams and fears that go with it. That they should die so suddenly at such young ages and in such harrowing circumstances has struck all of us in Waterford as appalling and we really can’t even begin to imagine the huge burden of loss and personal grief being carried by Bryan and Johanna’s three surviving children and by the O’Regan and O’Keeffe families.
“The intention is that this appeal fund will provide a coordinated channel for people to offer practical support to these three young children and the funds raised through the appeal will help defray some of the costs of rearing Cian, Brianna and Aaron and help fund their education.”
