‘More funding needed’ to help disadvantaged urban areas

PLANNING, implementation and funding problems have beset a major Government programme designed to revitalise disadvantaged urban areas, according to an independent evaluation of the project.

The report said there should be a significant increase in funding for the RAPID programme and a commitment to provide long-term funding.

The RAPID initiative, set up in 2001, targets 25 designated disadvantaged urban areas as well as 20 provincial towns.
