WATERFORD could have its own specialist cancer care unit within two-and-a-half years, three years ahead of schedule, a hospital boss claimed yesterday.

A scheme is being devised to fast-track the development of Waterford Regional Hospital’s long-awaited specialist cancer care unit.

Dr Rob Landers, WRH’s Medical Board chairman, confirmed the board was in active discussions with a view to getting the oncology/haematology unit built by a private company on the grounds of the hospital.
