WIT to launch MBA programme to boost managers’ skills

The programme is being run in conjunction with Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) and is being offered on a part-time basis over a two-year period, beginning in September.

The Executive MBA programme is described by WIT head of graduate business Dr Denis Harrington as a “highly innovative and relevant learning experience that meets your personal development goals and employers’ expectations”.

The MBA is an internationally-recognised management qualification.

Dr Harrington said: “This is a project which we’ve progressed in partnership with Waterford County Council and County Waterford VEC. Discussions have been ongoing for some while and we now feel that the time is right to offer this programme to people working and living in the west of the county.”

Waterford county manager Ray O’Dwyer welcomed the initiative.

“This is something that has been at the forefront of my agenda since I took over the role of county manager. I am delighted that the project has now reached this point, thanks to the co-operation and dedication of Professor Kieran Byrne, director of WIT, and his staff,” he said.

“The programme presents a unique opportunity for the west of the county and will be a big selling point in our endeavours to attract industry and investment to Dungarvan. I would hope that all employers in the county would encourage and support staff wishing to participate.”

The class content element of the course averages nine hours per week and involves one half-day release per week. Semesters run from September to December and late January to May.

WIT has recently secured FÁS funding for up to 60% of the Executive MBA fees in the coming year, as part of the FÁS One Step Up programme.

Dr Harrington said: “This is tremendous news for employees of private companies as it means that the programme is very affordable.”

In order for the MBA programme to proceed, a minimum of 18 participants will be required.

Application forms and full details may be obtained from MBA programme director Tom Egan on 051 302426 or Dr Denis Harrington on: 051 302427

nApplication forms must be returned by May 30, 2006.
