PRISON authorities are awaiting the results of medical tests on a Cork prison inmate who was admitted to hospital yesterday with suspected tuberculosis (TB).

Last night, a spokesman for the Irish Prison Service (IPS) stressed that the man’s condition was still a case of suspected rather than confirmed TB.

Once medical examiners had the full results of tests, the health authorities would instruct the IPS what steps, if any, were necessary.
