Roche to move e-voting devices to army base

THOUSANDS of e-voting machines are to be stored at an army base, Environment Minister Dick Roche pledged yesterday after cross-party demands for them to be scrapped.

The minister was bowing to pressure over the €700,000-a-year cost of housing and insuring 7,500 of the devices.

Mr Roche insisted he would wait for the findings of an inquiry into the future of e-voting before deciding whether to abandon the initiative, which has cost €57 million.
