Taoiseach pledges to get tough on voter fraud

TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern last night admitted voter fraud was rife in his constituency and he vowed to get a grip on the problem nationally.

Mr Ahern told the Dáil some homes in his Dublin Central seat boasted 80 electors and produced an “extraordinary” turn out on polling day.

With the electoral register believed to be overstated by up to 800,000 voters, Mr Ahern said census enumerators would be put back to work to make constituency lists more accurate.
