AN OFFICIAL investigation has begun into complaints that several Ryanair flights landed in heavy fog at Stansted Airport near London last week — in breach of normal safety limits.

The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) has confirmed it is examining allegations that pilots working for the low-cost carrier chose not to divert from Stansted, despite warnings that visibility was below the minimum recommendations for a safe landing.

Most flights, including some Ryanair services, which were scheduled to land at Stansted on April 24 diverted to other airports.
