CONSUMER watchdogs today called for health insurance giant VHI to be stripped of the commercial and competitive advantages it has over Bupa and Vivas.

The National Consumer Agency (NCA) is also calling for greater competition in the health insurance market with all players placed on a level playing field.

Speaking to the Irish Examiner, NCA boss Ann Fitzgerald said: “VHI is not bound by the same financial regulations and business rules as Bupa and Vivas.
